A milestone has been reached
Last night I accomplished something truly great. See, if you remember from posts past, I like to write by hand, and purchased a journal-sized notebook to write in.
Well, as of last night, I’ve officially filled it up.
That’s right… It’s DONE. Well, not the story, I’m still moving forward on the story, but the book itself is very full, and I’ve started on a second.
Just LOOK! Look at the beautiful, and so very full pages!

Umm… ignore the chicken scratch.
So with that done, I’ve got a backup book on hand, that I’ve already continued on. I removed the handy THIS IS MINE ribbon from the red book and moved it to the brown.

I’m even continuing the page numbering from 249. I’m at the climax of the novel, just at the beginning of the big confrontation, and I’ve got FORWARD MOTION. I can’t wait to write tonight.
I think I’ll go do that now.

Oh how amazing! I’ve always wanted to do that, and I end up wimping out and typing instead. The journal is so lovely, what brand/type is it? =3
Not a moleskine, if that’s what you’re asking.
Too rich for my blood. I got it at Target, I think it might be their house brand. If you haven’t checked there… do so. They’ve go some really beautiful notebooks, for a decent price. The brown one is the same brand.
Wow!! That is amazing
I have several notebooks that I’ve started, but I don’t believe I’ve ever finished one. You inspire me to try!
And just curiously – what do you find the biggest differences to be when you’re writing in a journal as opposed to typing? Does it make you more careful with your words, or make the words flow easier?
Well, you see, I type very fast… from head to fingers, it’s probably around 100+ wpm. (I clock at 75, but that’s with typing tests) so when I write on the computer, my work tends to be flow-of-consciousness, and much less polished.
I write a lot slower by hand, and it gives me more time to compose sentences, choose the right words, and the end result is a lot more polished. My first draft sounds less like a NaNoWriMo spew and more like a real writer’s first attempt.
Then, when I transcribe the draft into the computer, I auto-edit, usually boosting word count, and complete a second draft with little effort. It makes the editing process a lot easier.
I also find that I focus better on actual writing in the journal. I have SO many distractions on the computer, email, facebook, twitter… I rarely just sit and write, you know?
No internet access in a journal.
